Heart & Cardiac Tests.

If you’re concerned about any issues with your heart or if you have a history of a heart condition, then our consultant cardiologist can carry out a number of cardiac tests and diagnostics to help put your mind at rest.

You may be experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations, and chest pain, which can indicate an issue with the heart.

There’s no waiting times or need for a referral, and our consultant cardiologist, Dr Aayaz Sultan, will be on hand to offer advice and guidance and carry out any necessary tests.

We can assess, investigate and treat a range of heart conditions, often providing an early diagnosis of a potential problem.

Some tests can be carried out within a £55 GP consultation, whilst others require a consultation with the Cardiologist which costs £220. Our friendly and helpful team will be able to advise.

Tests available
If you’re experiencing any problems with your heart such as palpitations, pressure or pain in the chest or shortness of breath, it’s important to be checked out as soon as possible. Our cardiology tests include:

ECHO

An Echocardiogram (ECHO) is an ultrasound of the heart. It can be useful in diagnosing certain heart issues such as heart attack, congenital heart disease and issues with heart valves.

If you are experiencing palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, atrial fibrillation, murmurs, or known or suspected heart failure, our consultant cardiologist may recommend an ECHO. We can carry out an ECHO at our city centre clinic.

Consultation cost £220.00

ECHO cost £390.00

Lp-PLA2

An Lp-PLA2 test measures the amount of Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) in the blood. Lp-PLA2 is an enzyme that is associated with LDL cholesterol. It appears to promote atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) by carrying bad cholesterol to the heart. This test measures the amount of Lp-PLA2 in the blood. High Lp-PLA2 levels can be associated with a high risk of heart attack or stroke.

Test costs £94.00.

ECG

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test which measures the electrical activity and rhythm of your heart. It can be used in conjunction with other tests to help diagnose a heart problem, particularly if you are experiencing palpitations, chest pain and shortness of breath. All ECGs are read by a cardiologist and a report is provided.

Consultation cost £55.00.
ECG cost £50.00.

Dobutamine Stress ECHO

A Dobutamine Stress ECHO is an ultrasound of the heart and assesses how well your heart works under stress. It is the same as an ECHO but involves being given a drug called dobutamine which causes the heart to beat faster, mimicking the effects of exercise.

It is often performed if you have a family history of heart disease, or are experiencing shortness of breath, chest pain or discomfort that is suggestive of angina, and to identify the cause of heart failure. It can also be useful in diagnosing heart issues if you are experiencing pain or difficulty whilst exercising.

Consultation cost 220.00.

Stress ECHO cost £470.00.

Carotid Doppler

A Carotid Doppler is a scan of the carotid arteries and shows if any narrowing has taken place. It can be used to assess the risk of stroke or coronary heart disease and is particularly useful if you have a history of TIA or stroke.

The Carotid Doppler test is carried out by our consultant cardiologist at our city centre clinic.

Consultation cost 220.00.

Carotid Doppler cost £270.00.

hsCRP

hsCRP is a blood test that checks the level of a particular protein in the blood, which is known to be elevated with heart disease.

Healthy individuals with an elevated hsCRP are up to four times as likely to have coronary heart disease and an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Test cost £40.

Cholesterol measuring

A cholesterol test is a simple blood test that can be used to assess your risk of heart disease.

Too much cholesterol can be associated with heart disease. It builds up in the arteries, causing them to harden (atherosclerosis) and can ultimately result in heart attack.

In addition to measuring the total cholesterol in your blood, the standard cholesterol test (called a “lipid panel”) measures three specific kinds of fat: Low-density lipoproteins (LDL), High-density lipoproteins (HDL) and Triglycerides.

Test cost £20.00.

Blood pressure monitoring

Blood pressure is the blood pressure in your arteries. When the pressure is too high, the heart needs to work harder to pump blood around your body.

If left untreated, high blood pressure can result in heart attack and stroke.

It’s important to monitor your blood pressure to prevent problems occurring in the future.

Consultation cost £55.00.
There is no charge for a blood pressure test if carried out as part of a £55 GP consultation.

Triple A Screen

Triple A screening is a way of checking if there’s a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from your heart down through your tummy.

This bulge or swelling is called an abdominal aortic aneurysm, or AAA and if left untreated, can burst and cause life threatening bleeding.

There are few or no symptoms of AAA, so it’s important to get checked out.

You can request a Triple A screen at any age to put your mind at rest.

Consultation cost 220.00

Triple A screen cost £370.
